I took breakfast in a café next to the railway station before boarding my train to Peterborough to leave at 12.00. It was then a short wait at PBO with arrival at 12.49, and departure at 13.18.Arrival in YRK was scheduled to be at 14.32.Ive noted that railway information boards now have British Sign Language (BSL) translation. This is a very good thing indeed, and I came to wonder given the number of iterations of stations, and times exactly how these are put together. With audio announcements this is easy in that the individual words can be recorded or synthesised, and put together in the correct order by a computer. With the BSL translation the mechanism eludes me but I remain very impressed.
The train got in on time. So far, this has been a theme in my travels of England. As I write however, the King has announced plans to re-nationalise the railways. While I am generally very much in favour of public ownership of national services, I will be interested to note any changes this move brings.
My apartment check-in was not until 4.00pm, so I walked the 25 minutes to a nearby donut, and coffee shop when I enjoyed a bright pink “Simpsons” themed donut. It was very well-received as I had nothing to eat since my Cambridge breakfast, and the temperature was getting significantly higher than it had been previously.
I found my apartment to be modern, clean, and well-supplied with essentials. This included a washing machine. Since I had not washed any of my clothes since my first day in Liverpool, I bought food from a nearby supermarket and spent the evening re-setting. I would look forward to exploring York on the morrow, with a fresh head, and clean clothes.
