We hold various other socials throughout the semester to socialise outside of regular FolkSoc activities.<\/p>\n

This year we have enjoyed a board game night, ceilidhs and karaoke!<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/i>C\u00f2mhla le Ch\u00e9ile<\/h5><\/a><\/div>
\n

C\u00f2mhla le Ch\u00e9ile is the annual gathering of university folk societies from around Scotland and Ireland (usually in November). It’s a great weekend-festival, where meeting people from all the other folk societies, and is full of sessions and workshops. There’s even dinner – and a ceilidh!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n

<\/i><\/i>Weekends Away<\/h5><\/a><\/div>

We organise a weekend away during Semester 1 for spending time together and playing music.<\/p>\n

Previous trips have included going to Ireland, Inverness, Callander, Anstruther, Nethy Bridge, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Dunbar, Grantully and Pitlochry.<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/i>Weeks Away<\/h5><\/a><\/div>

Every year before Semester 2 starts, we all head off on a weeklong trip for boardgames, walks, and most importantly tunes!!!<\/p>\n

We often try to go to places with a local folk scene, so we can connect with other folk communities across the country. This has led to some great pub sessions, lots of local songs, and even on occasion some dancing…<\/p>\n

Previous weeks away have been in Earby, Allendale, and many more!<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/i>Orkney Folk Festival<\/h5><\/a><\/div>
\nIn May, FolkSoc makes an annual trip to the Orkney Folk Festival<\/a> for gigs, sessions, dancing, and general folkery.<\/p>\n

This year the Festival takes place in late May every year. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on our plans for this year’s festival!
