Welcome to the website of the Edinburgh University Folk Society (EUFolksoc)!

Session on the HamnavoeFolksoc was formed as the "Edinburgh University Folk Song Society" in the late 1950s and had it`s initial meeting on the 18th of April 1958. Since then it has played an important role in the Folk Revival throughout the 1960s and 1970s and organised Ceilidhs, Concerts and a Folk Festival in 1963.

The "Edinburgh University Folk Song Society" was renamed "Edinburgh University Folk Society" to reflect the high proportion of instrumentalists and instrumental music involved. Today it consists of 10-15 student members and at least as many non-student members. There is the occasional older member as well as all the younger students and ex-students. Non-students include staff members and those who are otherwise connected to the university, including a proportion who are former students or who tutor students.

Pitlochry sessionWe meet every Tuesday at 9.00pm at 48a The Pleasance (click for the map from streetmap.co.uk). Meetings are notoriously informal and involve music, chat, crisps, sweets, beer and the occasional home baking! All instrumentalists, singers and listeners are welcome.

We also organise outings to other clubs such as Penicuik Folk Club, sessions and Festivals such as the Orkney Folk Festival every May. Instrumental and song workshops are organised according to demand.

Folksoc even has a radio show on Fresh Air Student radio presented by Paul. Check it out!
