How to Relax: Pt. 1

Relaxing is difficult. Really difficult. Every time I try it, my head invents tasks I should be doing, places I should be going, things I should be experiencing. I have an advantage in this city in that I’ve done all of the important sites, and attractions so in theory, I can absolutely afford to “chill out”.

That doesn’t make it much easier, if I’m honest about it. Whether I’m at home, or elsewhere this is the biggest challenge. I am determined. I have nothing planned until Wednesday. I just want to relax.

To that end, I had a light, and late breakfast in the apartment and watched “Muppet Babies”. Judge me if you will. I downloaded some shows from Radio 2, and listened to them as I walked uptown. I bought a peach iced tea, and a pastry and sat down under a tree with my books.

After a while, I strolled north to pay a visit to Bethesda Terrace and the “Angel of the Waters”. This is always a go-to spot for me. It features heavily in the lengthy but excellent play by Tony Kushner “Angels in America”.

The “B” and then “R” trains brought be back to the East Village where I enjoyed a beer at “Cooper’s”, just a block north from my apartment. I ordered a pretzel, and enjoyed this very much.

Relaxation rating 7/10.
